The Outdoor Naturalist Instructor is responsible for planning, instructing and supervising an Outdoor Nature class or program that requires advanced certification or skill. Instruction may target individuals or groups across the age and ability spectrum. Classes are self-supporting, and funding comes from participant fees. Scheduling and hours of work vary.

We are currently seeking Instructors to help teach, plan, and supervise in one or more of the following programs:

  • Nature Explorers - Learn about nature and the outdoors with your child. Different activities are planned weekly such as hands on activities, nature walks and more.
  • Spring is Here Scavenger Hike - Fun, spring-time themed scavenger hunt along the trail while exploring the beautiful spring colors. The hike will end with a craft.
  • Tadpole Hike - Come search for tadpole and hike on the Rivanna Trail. Learn about the native animals and their habitats.
  • Teddy Bear Hike - Bring your favorite stuffed toy for a fun-filled hike on the Rivanna Trail. Learn about the native animals and their habitats.

Minimum Qualifications:
   - Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
   - Minimum of one year of experience instructing the specialized class/skill or three years of experience participating at a high level in the specialized skill/class in a competitive, organized environment. 

 Special Requirements
   - Depending on assignment, may require OSHA and Blood Borne Pathogens, a current CPR/First Aid certification, and/or certification from a nationally accredited organization in specialty area.
