GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
 
General Description: This is an administrative position. The incumbent performs complex tasks and fieldwork to develop, market, implement, and evaluate recreational programs in one or more of the following disciplines of community recreation: special events, therapeutic recreation, athletics, youth programs, adult programs, and senior adult programs.
 
Organization: The Recreation Coordinator reports to the Recreation Program Director and may supervise several staff.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Recruit, select, train and evaluate employees, performing related human resources functions and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Supervises contractors and volunteers, maintaining appropriate records.
  • Researches, plans, develops, coordinates, supervises and evaluates department programs related to specific discipline.
  • Develop and maintain program budgets, under the direction of the Recreation Program Director.
  • Develop, produce and distribute promotional materials.
  • Serves on various committees and boards as liaison between the department, community and the county.
  • Assists with Department public relations and community involvement, through attendance at community and Department events.
  • Each Recreation Coordinator may be responsible for one or more of the following tasks:
    • Coordinate regular maintenance for Pole Green Community Center with Facilities Coordinator.
    • Coordinate, manage and track department volunteers for department.
    • Photograph department and county programs, events and facilities.
    • Work with Recreation Program Director to develop department-wide promotional materials.
  • Athletics (specific tasks related to job discipline)
    • Serves as liaison to community athletic leagues to include but not limited to facilitation of annual meeting, review and scheduling of athletic facility requests, communication of athletic use with Athletic Groundskeeper Supervisor, and invoicing of athletic facility users.
  • Youth (specific tasks related to job discipline)
    • Coordinates summer youth camp planning, staffing, implementation and evaluation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and experience in staff supervision and evaluation required. Must be able to plan, implement and evaluate programs and events in related discipline. Ability to organize and prioritize work, work independently, program solve, develop and maintain working relationship with staff and the public, required. Effective written and oral communication skills, required. Computer literacy, required.
 
Education, Experience and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required (bachelor's degree preferred) with at least two (2) years' related experience, including supervisory experience – OR – Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

  • Work beyond normal work schedule, including weekends and evenings
  • Twelve-month probationary period

Special Instructions to Applicants

This position is responsible for the discipline areas of athletics and youth programs. The incumbent will be responsible for directly supervising the Recreation Program Assistant - Athletics. Youth programs includes, but is not limited to the planning  and evaluation of department-led summer camp programs, which includes the recruitment, selection and supervision of summer camp staff.
