Location: Frying Pan Farm Park
Schedule: 32 hours per week, weekdays 9 am to 3 pm. Two to 4 weekend days per month and occasional evening hours required.

Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon, VA includes a 1930’s working farm, public equestrian facility, and a large Visitor Center. The Visitor Center hosts evening classes, summer camps and concerts, and is rentable for meetings and parties. This dynamic park seeks a creative, self-motived programmer who loves working with people.   

Under the direction of the Visitor Center Manager, the Adult and Family Class Programmer duties include:

  • Develop ideas for and implement classes, including canine classes and vendor run summer camps.

  • Track attendance and class trends and adjusting programming accordingly.

  • Hire and supervise class instructors.

  • Work collaboratively with vendors and park staff to schedule camps and classes and support vendor run camps and classes on site.

  • Load camp and class information into the Parknet system.

  • Plan and implement seasonal on-site events. Assist with large scale special events.  

  • Assist with public inquiries in person and on the phone.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have programming and planning experience and a valid driver’s license. Comfortable working on personal computers and learning new software packages, high school diploma or GED equivalent. Be able to work out doors, stand for long periods, traverse uneven ground, carry, pull and (or) lift up to 40 lbs unassisted. See and communicate fluently in English. Must be personable, punctual, dependable and capable of finishing required and requested tasks without direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: Background in Park and Recreations, experience with Microsoft Office Suite, experience with Parknet software and programming, experience with planning and implementing adult and family classes and events. First Aid, CPR, and or MAT certification. 

Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry.  Must be available to work the annual 4-H Fair, August 2-5.

Note: *This position may not exceed 1560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.
