Description: The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform administrative and professional work in developing, coordinating, and managing programs in assigned area(s) to meet the recreation and leisure needs of the community. Work involves planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for youth ages eleven to eighteen; planning, implementing and evaluating classes; special events; supervising after-school programs at Teen Center and seasonal summer camps, including supervising Teen Center, seasonal staff, adult and student volunteers; maintaining equipment and safety standards; planning, supervising and evaluating summer camps; transporting program participants; creating reports of assigned activities; funding for programming; developing and maintaining partnerships with local service organizations and businesses; providing course descriptions for publications; and developing advertising pieces for programming. This class works independently, under limited supervision of the Program Coordinator II, or other supervisor as assigned, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Essential Functions: Researches new classes, trips and events; recommends and plans programs for the department. Plans, develops and schedules classes, trips, camps and activities. Hires and oversees instructors; creates instructor contracts. Reviews teen classes and teen center special events for quarterly or other reviews and reports. Coordinates camp contractors for specialty camps; supervises contractors, manages issues as they arise, maintains required forms and materials for camp and class contractors; executes seasonal contractor submissions, inputs data into recreation software with little to no errors; ensures proper documentation is obtained and seasonal contracts are executed prior to start of classes or camps; visits camp sites weekly. Trains and supervises camp and teen center staff; instructs in the operation of transport van. Operates van to transport youth and others to camps and events. Monitors trips, classes and special events. Reviews and approves records and reports, including time sheets. Assures grant funding for Teen Center and generates revenue through class and trip enrollments. Determines profit and loss calculations as they relate to creating a quarterly and annual budget. Prepares and administers budgets for assigned units. Creates contracts with vendors and/or matters related to trip agreements. Insures class and event inclusions in department brochures. Additional Duties: Develops catalogue copy, course information and advertising related to same. Prepares general reports and correspondence, attends business meetings. Assists with department special and other events and programs. Maintains positive relations with co-workers and customers. Performs related work as assigned or required.
