This is a seasonal position, no benefits.  Primarily responsible for delivering quality consistent playing conditions, planning and coordinating specialty projects, keeping accurate records of chemical applications while following the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) policy. Performs difficult skilled and responsible technical work in supervising the maintenance of the municipal golf course; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Parks. Supervision is exercised over all subordinate maintenance personnel.

  • Supervises and participates in the maintenance of golf course grounds, fairways, tees and greens, irrigation and water systems involving general grass cutting, brush and bush clearing, the cutting, aeration, dressing and watering of greens with specialized equipment, the repair of water and sprinkler systems, and the preparation and application of specialized chemicals, fertilizers and soil enrichment materials;
  • Instructs and trains subordinates in proper maintenance practices;
  • Diagnosis condition of greens anticipates weather and climatic conditions and initiates appropriate maintenance action;
  • Performs routine maintenance work on golf course equipment and machinery;
  • Relocates pin placements, refills drinking coolers, cleans club house walkways, etc.;
  • Operates golf course equipment in connection with the above tasks;
  • Maintains inventory records of supplies and materials;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
       - Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by technical courses in agronomy and turf grass management;
       - Considerable experience in the technical care and maintenance of golf course grounds;
       - Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and practices used in golf course maintenance; thorough knowledge of turf diseases and the chemicals necessary to treat same.
