RECREATION SPECIALIST I / GROUP FITNESS SUPERVISOR duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • A personal commitment to health, fitness and wellness with an outward facing professional appearance.
  • Physical ability to instruct a minimum of five classes a week and maximum of ten. Fill-in for instructors and group fitness supervisor’s as needed.
  • Knowledge and ability to instruct numerous group fitness formats.
  • Set policy, procedures and standards for all fitness programs including safety, customer service, and staff accountability.
  • Develop, execute and assess large scale fitness events for the center(s) and community at large.
  • Design, create and maintain monthly group fitness schedules. Accurately track staff usage and fiscal allocations.
  • Assess group fitness program, analyze and report data on an ongoing basis.
  • Continually research fitness industry trends and propose program changes to meet the demographic needs of the community.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate approximately 20 group fitness instructors.
  • Maintain instructor certification records and provide/recommend opportunities for professional growth. Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Meet or exceed annual revenue and performance goals. Report as required on performance and variances.
  • Address patron comments, concerns, behaviors and conduct as necessary with friendly customer service.
  • In conjunction with the marketing department, coordinate and execute ongoing marketing strategies.
  • Maintain detailed participation reports and other statistical records for programs offered.
  • Purchase group fitness equipment in compliance with City procurement processes and accurately track allocated expenditures.
  • Collaboratively build a comprehensive fitness and wellness program including personal training, registered fitness & wellness classes, group fitness, weight room patron engagement and other related activities.
  • Directly oversee all aspects of the group fitness room to include member check-in, equipment needs, purchases, and replacement. Maintain a welcoming, clean environment and space.
  • Actively promote all fitness and wellness programs and services to maximize patron engagement and results.

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provide in the application.

  • Experience as a Group Fitness Manager, Group Fitness Supervisor or Group Fitness Program Director.
  • Possess a current national level group Fitness certification(s) from ACE, AFAA or comparable. Certification must be recognized by the
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Experience instructing a variety of group fitness formats.
  • Experience with meeting projected revenue goals and tracking expenditures.
  • Experience supervising staff to include hiring, training, and evaluating.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with patrons, direct reports and supervisors in a professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs.
  • Exhibit outstanding problem solving skills by addressing unexpected issues with limited supervision.
  • Motivation to work independently with good time management and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to start up programs and see them through to assessment.
