RECREATION SPECIALIST I / WEIGHT ROOM SUPERVISOR duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • A personal commitment to health, fitness and wellness with an outward facing professional appearance.
  • Set policy, procedures and standards of weight room and adjoining areas to include safety, customer service, and staff accountability.
  • Assist with the development, execution and assessment of large scale fitness and wellness events for the centers and community at large.
  • Track weight room usage, analyze and report data on an ongoing basis. 
  • Continually research fitness industry trends and propose revenue and non-revenue based programs in conjunction with fitness and wellness staff and other center unit staff. 
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate part time weight room staff. Schedule according to patron usage and accurately track staff usage and allocations.
  • Assist Fitness and Wellness staff with meeting or exceeding annual revenue and performance goals. Report as required on performance and variances.
  • Address patron comments, concerns, behaviors and conduct as necessary with friendly, professional customer service oriented approach.
  • In conjunction with the marketing department, coordinate and execute ongoing marketing strategies.
  • Maintain detailed participation reports and other statistical records for programs offered.
  • Ability to make recommendations for large scale equipment replacements and contract renewals. Accurately track and maintain repair records for all equipment in weight room area.
  • Assist with collaboratively building a comprehensive fitness and wellness program that includes personal training, registered classes, group fitness, weight room patron engagement and other related activities.
  • Proactively engage patrons through city wide/center challenges, member highlights, informational boards, and in-services.
  • Directly oversee the weight room area to include equipment repairs and needs, purchases, replacement and cleaning protocols.

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provide in the application.

  • Experience as a Weight Room Supervisor, Fitness Center Supervisor/Manager or Gym Facility Supervisor
  • Possess a current national level Group Fitness and/or Personal Training Certification(s) from ACE, AFAA, NASM, NSCA or comparable. Certification must be recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Supervision experience to include hiring, training and evaluating.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patrons, direct reports and supervisors in written and verbal formats
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs.
  • Exhibit outstanding problem solving skills by addressing unexpected issues with limited supervision.
  • Motivation to work independently with good time management and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to start up programs and see them through to assessment.
