Description: General Definition of Work Performs difficult skilled human support work planning, implementing, and supervising specialized recreational activities and programs, scheduling programs and events, registering participants, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Parks & Recreation Superintendent. Continuous supervision is exercised over all personnel within the team. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential Functions Plans, coordinates, and supervises specialized recreation and cultural activities including senior programs, athletic games, community activities, classes, etc.; plans and coordinates special events. Assists with evaluating leisure and recreation needs of citizens; assists with the development and implementation of sports and recreation programs to meet needs. Prepares, issues, and maintains a variety of fliers, news releases, brochures, and publications of events and activities and does other public relations work on a routine and special basis. Coordinates and schedules activities, events, and facility usage; registers program participants. Acts as resource person in the given specialty to associates, community civic groups, and the general public; responds to inquiries and complaints. Receives, receipts, and accounts for various program revenues; prepares and makes bank deposits; updates class fees and charges; establishes new fees and charges as necessary. Assists in the recruitment and selection of volunteers and program staff; recommends candidates for hire; assigns, directs, trains, and inspects the work of assigned staff; develops staff schedules, manages time sheets, and processes payroll. Performs various clerical and bookkeeping support functions; prepares and submits periodic reports. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the principles, rules, techniques, materials, and equipment required for a variety of sports and recreational activities; thorough knowledge of the rules and equipment of the sport, activity, or craft to which assigned; thorough knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation; thorough knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting, and supervising recreation activities; some knowledge of public relations and media techniques; some knowledge of first aid practices and techniques; ability to instruct participants and adhere to program standards and objectives; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants, and the general public. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree with coursework in recreation, leisure studies, sports management, or related field and minimal experience in organized recreational programs, maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment, managing group activities, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing and lifting and occasionally requires sitting and climbing or balancing; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing.
