Description: To apply: Please visit www.christiansburg.org Full Job Description AQUATIC TOURNAMENTS COORDINATOR Town of Christiansburg Aquatics Department Code 72040 JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Aquatic Tournaments Coordinator is to coordinate the operations of the competitive pool and diving area and to coordinate aquatics tournaments for the Town. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise and training • Organizes and coordinates competitive meets in compliance with USA Swimming, USA Diving, NCAA Swimming or other applicable guidelines; schedules and sets up for meets; orders supplies and makes arrangements for event needs; ensures proper operation of meet equipment; serves as on-site coordinator answering questions, solving problems, operating timing system and computer programs as needed • Maintains equipment and facilities; configures competitive pool according to user needs; moves starting blocks; cleans and test timing system; orders new equipment or sends broken equipment in for repair as needed; maintains inventory records and documentation • Coordinates facility rentals; writes and negotiates contracts; maintains master calendar and schedules practices and/or events; processes billing and payments; maintains related documentation and records • Coordinates competitive Masters and league swim teams; implements program in compliance with league guidelines; advertises programs; oversees and processes registrations; coordinates and implements practice and meet schedules; keeps meet records; attends league meetings; recruits and hires coaching staff; coaches teams as needed • Prepares, types, proofreads, and/or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, contracts, bills, calendars, lists, directories, logs, notices, charts, graphs, spreadsheets, brochures or other documents • Receives various forms, reports, checks, contracts, meet results, policies, procedures, manuals, handbooks, directories, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, proofreads, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate • Communicates with supervisor, Town employees, participants, and the public and outside businesses and agencies as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction • Maintains an awareness of new products, methods, trends, and advances in profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate • Operates personal computer, general office equipment, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software • Performs other duties as required TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT • Pool testing equipment, supplies and chemicals • Aquatic rescue equipment: AED, backboards, whistles and horns • Hand tools including basic power tools; ladders; handcarts • Office equipment, including desktop computer and Microsoft Office, computer and recreation software applications. • Automobile • Scoreboard and swim meet equipment; Colorado Timing Scoreboard and Timing equipment. • Meet Manager and Team Manager JOB CONTEXT The Aquatic Tournaments Coordinator works between 40-55 hours a week depending on the number of activities and events occurring. Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (30-50 pounds). Most essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions; however, performance of some essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers. WORK PERFORMANCE The Aquatic Tournaments Coordinator is required to follow departmental expectations and adhere to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the Town of Christiansburg Personnel Handbook. Work performance is reviewed utilizing the Town’s employee performance review program following first 6 month introductory period. During this introductory period, the employee must demonstrate a strong understanding of all that the job requires. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education and experience • Bachelor’s degree in Sports, Recreation, Leisure Service or related field; supplemented by three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in aquatics programming, coaching, and tournament administration; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Prior experience with operation of swim meet equipment required. Certifications/Licenses • CPR and First Aid Certifications • Lifeguarding for the Professional Rescuer • Valid Virginia Driver’s license; must meet and maintain insurability requirements and a minimum of three (3) years driving experience KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: • Philosophy and objectives of public recreation and leisure services • Principles, practices and application of lifesaving techniques • First aid equipment, procedures and techniques • General principles in providing effective customer service • Safety and liability/risk management as it pertains to an aquatic facility • Community recreation as related to aquatics, including accepted standards, principles and concepts Ability to: • Review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data; Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probably interactive effects and relationships • Apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others in coordinating activities or a project, program, or designated area of responsibility • Operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions • Utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information • Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; calculate decimals and percentages; utilize principles of fractions and interpret graphs • Apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems • Exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria • Some tasks may require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades or colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals; Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally After hire, the Aquatics Tournament Coordinator must have: • Knowledge of Town Policies • Knowledge of all functions of the Aquatic Programs department SAFETY The employee shall adhere to Town of Christiansburg policies regarding safety precautions and the use of safety equipment that is necessary for the health and safety of all employees and citizens.
